The astonishing glory of attending a Fine Arts school in youth is that it allows entire freedom. A person wakes every morning knowing that the task is imagination, surprise, curiosity and depth probing as reason for existence. This is the work.
Art, the opposite of scholarship, becomes a love story. Scholarship, the opposite of Art becomes several stories. Two beautiful landscapes of paradox.
Having first travelled over American and Asian lands, flown across oceans, diesel loco motived over one large continent, and ridden some horseback, gate after gate for hours, often, in a day, I already enjoyed a sense of scale, timing and contemplation.
I knew though, that Time's Arrow was always going to be the killer. I think my instinct has been to enjoy the quiet, the breath and the flowers, whilst happy to make punts at topics in passing.
Born in the ' farthest country in the world' I knew that any punt I would make would be a brief drop in the pool. To be isolated from metropolis and epicenter was always going to be the bug bear of engagement. I had such a lot of fun living over the transition of information technologies where, at the start of my third film, people were on single lines using ftp protocol. I was able to get my first US AND THE GAME INDUSTRY documentary , to far flung places on that brief moment of history, the Blu Ray, to Margate, London, New Castle, Georgia, Buenos Aires, Durban, Sydney, Los Angeles and Philadelphia even before Steam at Valve was happy to provide services.
Bottom line, is still to sleep, eat, breath and be confident about change as a constant and ethics as a thesis. Human scale is the big question.
