Everyone’s story starts somewhere. I am saying, arbitrarily, that my family story begins with the naval defeat of Spain in 1588. This historical event opened the sea lanes for England to safely expand its mercantile activity and so develop one of the great empires in history.
Fourteen years after the defeat of the ‘ Armada ‘ my earliest known ancestor, John Libby, was born (1602 - 82 ) probably in Cornwall. Queen Elizabeth 1 was still monarch and William Shakespeare was alive and well enough.
