Joan Lyes, interviewed in I Want to be Joan,(1977)
Stephanie Beth ( Producer/ Director/ eBOOK Director ) with M.C. Martin Sagadin at the screening of the documentary IN JOY(1980) , at a retrospective screening September 28th in 2025 in Auckland.

I have lived in Christchurch since 1974. Between the years, with four utterly valuable travel years under my belt, in 1975 to ‘78 I took undergraduate study in Film Arts at the University of Canterbury. Until 2014 I was interested and engaged by filmmaking, as a consumer and also as a practitioner. I put my viewing of early Francis Bacon in a success camp. (1) I saw an exhibition of his paintings in 1971 at Tate Britain. From seeing early work then picking up on biography, I respected the bull walking off stage at the end of his career. Bulls carry mana. David Hockney had started painting his two people themes in 1971. (2) He painted wonderfully large canvases. I adored walking past them at Tate Britain. I have found that I have been truly impressed by Art. I sincerely respect its contribution.
Looking got me into Art.
