Henry Stokes Tiffen 1816 - 1896
Henry married twice. No children survived.
In England, when Henry trained to become a surveyor, he boarded with Captain White and his family.
Father. Mark White. 1791- 1849 Mother. Ann Foster 1800 - 1853.The Whites.
Henry fell madly in love with Caroline White. Caroline was born in 1825, in Perranuthnoe Cornwall England.
Caroline married Henry in 1842.

The family assembled a photo collage posthumously, of Louisa, by including Louisa and her friend outside her house, as it was the only image to find of her. Thet did this with great grandad and sons too.

History documents the report’s the Government buyer Sir Donald McLean re. the 1851 Ahuriri claim. In 1855 Henry Tiffen settled in Napier as the new city began to emerge. As District Surveyor in Hawkes Bay, he was signatory to the Deed of Purchase of Scind Island (Mataruahou), the site of Napier on 13th of November 1856. Incidentally, he was recorded as one who made a collection of plant specimens that was published in D. Simpson’s Manuscript Catalogue of the Library of the Royal Commonwealth Society. Miss Martha King was the first resident artist to draw these plant specimens. Henry co-purchased the land known as Greenmeadows / Napier.
